ODOT Announces Competitive Transit Grants Open

The Oregon Department of Transportation is now accepting applications for Phase 2 of the 2027–2028 Competitive Transit Grant program which provides federal and state funding for capital and operations projects to maintain and improve Oregon’s public transportation system.  

Total funding available

  • Federal Transit Administration Section 5339(a) Buses and Bus Facilities Grant: $4.4 million
  • Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund Intercommunity Discretionary Grant: $8.2 million 
  • Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund Discretionary Grant: $9 million

  • Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund Intercommunity 

Phase 2: Grant application timeline 

  • Open for applications: March 11, 2026 
  • Initial application due: April 20, 2026  
  • Final application due: June 15, 2026

Phase 1: Is still open through April 3, 2026 and provides federal funding to replace and purchase buses.
