OR 224 rock fence damaged by December 2025 rainstorms

Watch for flaggers about halfway between Estacada and Ripplebrook on OR 224 while we repair a rock fence damaged in the December 2025 storms.

Crews are restoring a rock-catching fence on a cliff over the highway

Feb. 13, 2026

ESTACADA – Travelers should watch for flaggers on OR 224 about halfway between Estacada and Ripplebrook on weekdays starting Feb. 17 as crews repair a rockfall fence high above the highway.

Traffic will be flagged through a single lane during daylight hours. The highway will be fully open at night and on weekends. Work will start Feb. 17 and take up to three months to complete.

Heavy rainstorms in December caused several landslides along the highway, damaging the fence. Crews will scale loose rock from the cliff face to reduce the risk of future rockfalls and repair the damaged fence.

“It will take some time to complete the work due to the location of the fence,” ODOT Engineer Jason McNeil said. “The fence is a few hundred feet up a steep rock face and taken apart to repair.”

Road work is subject to weather conditions, so please check Tripcheck.com when you plan your trip and before you hit the road.
