ODOT lowers speed limit on U.S. 101 in North Bend, Coos Bay

Jan. 23, 2026

COOS BAY – The speed limit along a two-mile section of U.S. 101 from North Bend to Coos Bay has been reduced in an effort to improve traffic safety.

The highway speed was lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph between Stanton Avenue and Hemlock Avenue, with a short section dropping to 30 mph south of Hemlock. The speed change took effect Thursday afternoon.

This area has seen an increase in traffic congestion in recent years due to private development and construction.

New speed limit signs have been installed and ODOT has notified local police and the cities of Coos Bay and North Bend about this change.
