Overnight closures of I-205 across the Abernethy Bridge tomorrow and Saturday night
Two nighttime closures of I-205 across the Abernethy Bridge (between OR 99E and OR 43) are coming up starting tomorrow night. The overnight closures are to install the second of two sign structures on the bridge and remove an older one. The first sign structure was installed last month.
Details:
- Overnight closure of I-205 in both directions across the Abernethy Bridge tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 16) from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and this Saturday, Jan. 17 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- During the overnight closures, the following on-ramps will also close:
- OR 99E on-ramp to I-205 southbound.
- OR 43 on-ramp to I-205 northbound.
- Lane closures on I-205 in both directions before and after the nighttime full closure.
Local and Regional Detours
- Regional traffic will bypass I-205 in this section by using detours on OR 224, OR 99E and I-5.
- Local traffic can use the Arch Bridge to cross the river.
As with any construction project, closure dates and timing are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen events. Please visit the project website for ongoing updates.

What is this project?
ODOT is upgrading the Abernethy Bridge, which spans the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, to withstand a major earthquake. We are also improving safety by realigning on- and off-ramps near the bridge and building new bike and pedestrian routes. This work is expected to finish in late 2026.
Follow the progress live on the project construction cameras.
