Plan ahead by visiting TripCheck.com for real-time traffic impacts. Schedules are subject to change and weather dependent.
All travel lanes in both directions of I-84 have reopened at McCord Creek until early 2026.

Crews temporarily closed two lanes of I-84 in mid-October to drill under the bridges, build a retaining wall and prep the work zone on the highway for the crossover traffic configuration planned in spring 2026. The NE Frontage Road on-ramp to eastbound I-84 at the Elowah Falls Trail parking area has also reopened.
In spring 2026, we will replace the aging eastbound I-84 bridge over McCord Creek to improve the safety and lifespan of the highway. Crews will continue working beneath I-84 through the winter, but this work will not affect I-84 travelers.

Travelers on I-84 can expect:
- No traffic impacts on I-84 until early 2026.
- Around the clock single lane and shoulder closures on I-84 at McCord Creek starting in early 2026.
- Closure of the NE Frontage Road on-ramp to eastbound I-84 in early 2026.
- Eastbound traffic sharing the westbound bridge for up to five months starting in spring 2026. During this time, I-84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction using the westbound bridge.
We will share more information in advance of these traffic impacts. Visit tripcheck.com or call 5-1-1 for traffic alerts. You can also sign up for our Region 1 newsletter to stay up to date.
The historic highway east of Multnomah Falls Lodge remains closed to all traffic, including bicycles and vehicles, until spring 2026 so crews can continue restoration and repairs to the 100 year-old elevated highway structure.
Work is occurring on the deck of the east viaduct. Since the east viaduct closed Oct. 6, crews have removed all the old asphalt, installed new supportive rebar and poured the new concrete on the deck’s surface. The project will restore the structure and preserve its appearance with its original color and stone texture.

While the east viaduct is closed between Multnomah Falls Lodge and Oneonta Trailhead:
- All traffic, including bicycles and vehicles, is prohibited between Multnomah Falls and the Oneonta Trailhead parking lot.
- Westbound vehicles on the Historic Highway east of Multnomah Falls will be turned around at the Oneonta Trailhead, about 2 miles east of Multnomah Falls. Parking is limited at the Oneonta Trailhead.
- Eastbound vehicles on the Historic Highway will be turned around east of the Multnomah Falls Lodge.
- Public transit and private buses are available to Multnomah Falls. Visit RideCatBus.org or ReadySetGOrge.com to find more information .
- The lot at Exit 31 from I-84 remains open. Real-time traffic impacts and cameras showing parking availability at the Exit 31 lot are available at TripCheck.com.
- As with all construction, the schedule is subject to change. The latest information including detour maps are posted on TripCheck.com and on the project website.

Construction to connect the 0.7 mile gap of the Historic Highway State Trail between Viento State Park and Mitchell Point begins in December 2025. Since fall 2024, an unpaved temporary trail has been accessible only by hikers.
Once complete in late 2026, the State Trail will provide nearly 10 miles of continuous car-free ADA-accessible trail for people walking, biking and rolling in the Columbia River Gorge between Wyeth State Park and the Mitchell Point Tunnel.
Trail users can expect:
- The Historic Highway State Trail will be closed about 2 miles east of Viento State Park during construction.
- A signed accessible detour route will be available for bicyclists and pedestrians to travel between the Mitchell Point Tunnel and Viento State Park next to I-84 while work is underway.
- Viento State Park and the Mitchell Point Tunnel will both remain open during construction. The Mitchell Point Tunnel parking lot (Exit 58) remains open for I-84 drivers.
I-84 travelers can expect:
- Periodic shoulder closures on I-84 east of Viento State Park.
You can read more about the state trail and the last remaining segments in our annual Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail Progress Report.

We’re repairing several culverts under I-84 between the Sandy River and Multnomah Falls. Culverts resemble tunnels and are built beneath a highway or road to allow water such as streams and rivers to flow under the road surface to the other side. Culverts help prevent flooding and erosion.
Culvert repairs will improve safety by managing stormwater and extending the lifespan of the highway. Work begins in early 2026 and continues to spring 2026.
During construction, I-84 travelers can expect:
- Periodic single lane and shoulder closures between the Sandy River and Multnomah Falls.

We’re improving safety at 15 on and off-ramps on I-84 between downtown Portland and Hood River by installing or replacing light poles, traffic signal heads and signage, and trimming overgrown vegetation as part of our All Roads Transportation Safety (ARTS) program. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026 and last until fall 2026.

During construction, travelers on I-84 between downtown Portland and Hood River can expect:
- Short-term daytime and nighttime single lane and shoulder closures at multiple ramps on I-84, with flaggers directing traffic.
- Temporary sidewalk and crosswalk closures with signed, pedestrian accessible detour routes.
For a list of work locations please visit the project website.
We’re creating a multiuse path alongside Jordan Road near the Sandy River Delta. The path connects to the existing pedestrian and bicycle tunnel underneath I-84 with the Sandy River Delta recreational area. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026 and continue through late summer 2026.
View of the existing conditions where we will build a new multi-use path parallel to Jordan Road near I-84 at Exit 18.
During construction, travelers, including pedestrians and bicyclists can expect:
- No traffic impacts to I-84 travel.
- Periodic single lane closures on Jordan Road, with flaggers directing traffic as needed; expect some delays at the westbound I-84 exit ramp while flaggers are present.
- The pedestrian and bicycle tunnel underneath I-84 will remain open during Phase 1 construction on the path but will temporarily close during Phase 2 (for work on the path connection to the tunnel); watch for signage.
- Existing trails will remain open during construction.
- The parking lot for the Sandy River Delta recreational area will remain open.
One opening is available for the Multnomah County Governor’s Representative on the Historic Columbia River Highway Advisory Committee. The committee advises the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department on issues relating to the Columbia River Highway, and the Historic Highway State Trail, including: funding, project prioritization, project design details, long-range planning and congestion solutions.
