Overnight closures of I-205 on the Abernethy Bridge and daytime westbound closure of Arch Bridge this week

We are installing a new sign bridge spanning all lanes of I-205 on the Oregon City side of the Abernethy Bridge and making ADA curb ramp improvements in West Linn at the Arch Bridge. This requires two nighttime closures of the Abernethy Bridge and daytime westbound closures on the Arch Bridge this week.

As with any construction project, closure dates and timing are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen events. Please visit the project website for ongoing updates. Additional details for both closures are below.

Overnight closure of I-205 across the Abernethy Bridge Dec. 5 and 6

There are two scheduled nighttime closures of I-205 across the Abernethy Bridge (between OR 99E and OR 43) this Friday and Saturday night.

Details:

  • Overnight closure of I-205 in both directions across the Abernethy Bridge on Friday, Dec. 5 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Saturday, Dec. 6 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • During the overnight closures, the following on-ramps will also close:
    • OR 99E on-ramp to I-205 southbound.
    • OR 43 on-ramp to I-205 northbound.
  • Lane closures on I-205 in both directions before and after the nighttime full closure.
  • Expect two more overnight closures on the Abernethy Bridge in the coming weeks. We will share details when they are confirmed.

Local and Regional Detours

  • Regional traffic will bypass I-205 in this section by using detours on OR 224, OR 99E and I-5.
  • Local traffic can use the Arch Bridge to cross the river.

The westbound lane on the Arch Bridge heading from Oregon City to West Linn will close for approximately 10 days during the day starting today.

Details:

  • Daytime closure of the westbound lane on the Arch Bridge for 10 days starting today (Monday, Dec. 1) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
  • Drivers headed from Oregon City to West Linn on the Arch Bridge will be detoured onto I-205 to cross the river.
  • Both sidewalks and the eastbound direction of the bridge will remain open.

Details and detour maps can be found on the project website.

What is this project?

ODOT is upgrading the Abernethy Bridge, which spans the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, to withstand a major earthquake. We are also improving safety by realigning on- and off-ramps near the bridge and building new bike and pedestrian routes. This work is expected to finish in late 2026.

Follow the progress live on the project construction cameras.
