I-205 to close for Abernethy Bridge work on nights of Dec. 5 and 6

Detours will be in place by 11 p.m. each night

Dec. 1, 2025

OREGON CITY – The Abernethy Bridge on Interstate 205 will close overnight on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and Dec. 6, for sign bridge installation in the Abernethy Bridge Project.

Both directions over the bridge will close from 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, and again from 11 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday. There will be lane closures before and after each full closure, so plan extra time into your trip if you plan to use I-205 this weekend.

Ramp closures

During the overnight closures, the following on-ramps will also close:

  • OR 99E on-ramp to I-205 southbound.
  • OR 43 on-ramp to I-205 northbound.

Overnight detours

  • Regional traffic will bypass I-205 in this section by using OR 224, OR 99E and I-5.
  • Local traffic can use the Arch Bridge to cross the river.

We expect to need two more overnight closures on the Abernethy Bridge in the coming weeks to complete the sign bridge installation. We will share details when they are confirmed.

Daytime lane closures

Work on the Arch Bridge starting Monday, Dec. 1, will require a westbound lane closure, and drivers cannot use the Arch Bridge to go from Oregon City to West Linn during the daytime work.

The eastbound lane will be open, so drivers can use the Arch Bridge to go from West Linn to Oregon City. Because there is just one lane in each direction on the bridge, westbound drivers will need to follow the detour to the Abernethy Bridge.

We expect work on the Arch Bridge will need up to 10 more days of lane closures.
