Southwest Oregon Construction Report for the week of Oct. 19-25, 2025
The following report includes ODOT highways in Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Curry and Douglas counties. Projects are listed in the following order: highway, location, project name. Project construction costs (bid amount) are provided when the information is available.
Pedestrian routes: Where traffic is routed through or around a work zone, pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work zone.

COOS COUNTY
OREGON 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 0.0 - 9.7, U.S. 101 to Cedar Point Road paving, culvert and bridge repairs ($11.77 million), website
This project will pave nearly seven miles of Oregon 42, repair seven bridges and repair or replace 25 culverts between the U.S. 101 junction and Coquille. The project will also install a continuous center turn lane between Green Acres Lane and Fernwood Road (MP 3.3-7.3) and add centerline rumble strips between Fernwood Road and Cedar Point Road (MP 7.3-9.7).
Watch for intermittent lane closures throughout the work zone as construction winds down for the season. Watch for traffic control devices and expect congestion and delays at peak travel times.
Drivers should also watch for a traffic pattern change between Green Acres Lane and Fernwood Road. The roadway has been restriped to create a center turn lane, allowing drivers to safely move out of the travel lanes to make left turns. Expect congestion and delays at peak traffic times over the next few weeks. Drivers are advised to give themselves extra travel time to reach their destinations.
OREGON 540 (Cape Arago Highway), MP 1.7 - 2.3 (North Bend), Broadway Avenue to Fir Street pedestrian improvements project ($817,041)
This project will improve pedestrian facilities along U.S. 101 between Broadway Avenue and Fir Street in North Bend by building ADA ramps, adding two pedestrian crossings with flashing lights near Ash Street and Spruce Street, sidewalk infills and bike lanes. Construction is scheduled for completion in December.
Watch for intermittent daytime shoulder closures through the project area. Watch for nighttime (7 p.m. to 9 a.m.) lane closures from Sunday night to Friday morning. Expect minor delays. Watch for traffic control changes and construction signs. Slow down and drive with caution.
When sidewalks are closed for construction, alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.
OREGON 542 (Powers Highway), MP 12.0, Long Tom Creek Bridge deck seal application
This project will apply a deck seal to Long Tom Creek Bridge (milepost 12.0). The work will take one day, tentatively scheduled during October. The work is weather dependent, so schedules can change.
Watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers. Drivers should expect congestion and delays. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 244.4, Southport Slough Bridges (NB and SB), Deck seal application
This project will apply deck seals to the U.S. 101 Southport Slough Bridges (northbound and southbound) at MP 244.4, about 4.5 miles south of Coos Bay.
Watch for intermittent daytime lane closures across the bridges. At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times. Drivers should expect congestion and delays when work is taking place.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 259.7, Bullards Bridge maintenance
Watch for intermittent daytime lane closures north of Bandon at Bullards Bridge for maintenance work. Watch for flaggers and expect delays of less than 20 minutes. The work is scheduled for completion by Oct. 29, depending on weather.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 281.85, Bearhead Mountain Lane Culvert Replacement, website
This project will replace a failing culvert under U.S. 101 at Bearhead Mountain Lane, about six miles south of Bandon. Nearly all work has been completed. Striping will be applied when weather and road conditions allow.
Watch for intermittent lane closures with flaggers through the work zone. Delays will be less than 20 minutes.
CURRY COUNTY
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 303.1, Emergency culvert replacement, ($3,958,460)
This project will replace a failing culvert under U.S. 101, about two miles south of Port Orford.
U.S. 101 traffic is limited to one lane in each direction until November. Watch for a temporary traffic signal and construction signs. Expect brief delays. Slow down and drive with caution.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 312, Arizona Landslide repair ($18.3 million)
This project will help reduce ground movement at the Arizona Landslide Complex, located 12 miles south of Port Orford, by building a deep shaft that will act as a giant catch basin for the new drainage system. Construction is scheduled for completion in November 2026.
Most work will take place on the west side of the highway. Drivers should watch for construction workers, equipment and vehicles along the shoulder.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 314.7 and 344.5, Emergency roadway repair ($1,753,848)
This is an emergency project that will repair two sections of U.S. 101 in Curry County where the road surface has sunken. All work is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 1.
On U.S. 101, watch for advance warning signs indicating lane closures and loose gravel. The highway is limited to a single lane of traffic 24/7 through these work zone areas. Traffic control will be provided by automated flaggers. Delays will be less than 20 minutes.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 315.9, MP 332.5, 344.5, Horizontal drains ($5,412,635)
This is an emergency project that will install horizontal drains along U.S. 101 in Curry County to remove water the landslide areas. All work is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 1.
Watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures and expect delays of 10-15 minutes. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.
DOUGLAS COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 1-163, Southern Oregon Wrong Way Driver Mitigation project ($2.5 million), website
This project improves safety along Interstate 5 by adding features that alert drivers when they enter an interchange off-ramp from the wrong direction. These enhancements include permanent signs, reflective pavement markings and flashing beacons. The project will involve most ramps on I-5 from the California border to the Curtin interchange (MP 1-163).
Starting in October, the contractor is scheduled to begin installing signs along I-5 interchange ramps, starting near the California border and working north through Jackson, Josephine and Douglas counties. Construction is expected to be completed in January.
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 162 (SB), Bridge over Buck Creek Road ($425,000)
This project will repair the deck of the southbound I-5 bridge over Buck Creek Road, just south of Exit 162. All work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
Starting the week of Oct. 20, southbound I-5 traffic will be limited to a single lane across Buck Creek Bridge. Concrete barrier will be placed next to the lane that is closed.
Starting Monday, Oct. 27, the southbound Exit 162 on-ramp will be closed for up to 21 days. Drivers on Oregon 38 who plan to travel south are advised to detour north on I-5 to Exit 163 (Curtin) and turn around.
On Buck Creek Road, watch for intermittent lane closures. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.
OREGON 38 (Umpqua Highway), MP 11-25, Bridge deck seal application
This project will apply deck seals to four bridges along Oregon 38: Luder Creek (MP 11.8), Scottsburg (MP 16.4), Burchard Creek (MP 21.5) and Grabb Creek (MP 25.1). Work will take one day at each bridge, tentatively scheduled for mid-October. This work is weather dependent, so schedules are subject to change.
Watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers. Drivers should expect congestion and delays. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.
OREGON 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 72-77 (Winston and Green District), Lookingglass Creek to I-5 paving and safety improvements ($11.97 million), website
This project will resurface a five-mile section of Oregon 42 between Winston and Interstate 5, install a new traffic signal at Rolling Hills Road, add safety features to help reduce crashes through the Green District, and upgrade sidewalk curb ramps to better accommodate wheelchair users and other pedestrians. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2026.
For the week of Oct. 19-25, paving is expected along the 1.2-mile section of Oregon 42 between Carnes Road and the Umpqua River Bridges, weather permitting. Paving is scheduled at night (7 p.m. to 8 a.m.), Sunday night to Saturday morning. Drivers should watch for lane closures, traffic control devices and construction vehicles. During this construction phase, at least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times. Speeds will be reduced in some areas. Side streets may experience traffic holds up to 20 minutes during some paving work, and traffic may be limited to right turns onto the highway. The contractor will return next spring to pave the rest of the project area.
During daylight hours, watch for intermittent weekday lane and shoulder closures through the work zone. Also watch for traffic control devices and work crews. When sidewalks are closed for construction, alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.
OREGON 138E (North Umpqua Highway), MP 49, Landslide area
A landslide has occurred along Oregon 138E about ten miles east of Steamboat. Both lanes are open, but drivers are advised to slow down in the area as the lanes are narrow.
OREGON 138W (Elkton-Sutherlin Highway), MP 15.5-16.5, Culverts and slide repair project ($1.3 million)
This project will repair culverts crossing Oregon 138W and a landslide about seven miles west of Sutherlin, near Marvin Hill. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of October.
Construction will require intermittent lane and shoulder closures. Flaggers will provide traffic control. Watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone. Expect brief delays.
STEWART PARK DRIVE (Roseburg), Bridge painting and repair ($4.48 million)
This project will paint and repair the Stewart Park Drive Bridge, which spans the South Umpqua River and is located between Fir Grove Elementary School and the Roseburg VA campus. All work on the steel truss bridge is scheduled to be completed in November.
The bridge is closed to motor vehicles. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes. During construction, the bridge will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 211.7, Reedsport pedestrian crossing ($282,000)
This project will install a pedestrian overhead flashing beacon and illumination at the intersection of Juniper Avenue and U.S. 101.
Watch for lane closures in the project area. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed. The northbound sidewalk will be closed for work. Alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.
JACKSON COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 1-163, Southern Oregon Wrong Way Driver Mitigation project ($2.5 million), website

When work is taking place, traffic on North Phoenix Road across the bridge will be limited to one lane in each direction. Drivers should watch for traffic control devices and expect congestion and delays.
OREGON 99 (Rogue Valley Highway), MP 8.5 - 9.1, Bicycle improvements project (Medford)
This project will improve bicycle facilities in a half-mile section of Oregon 99 near Garfield Street in Medford.
Watch for nighttime (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) lane closures from Sunday night to Friday morning. Expect minor delays. Watch for traffic control changes and construction signs. Slow down and drive with caution. Most work has been completed.
OREGON 99 (Rogue Valley Highway), MP 10.2 to 11, Glenwood to Coleman Creek utility work ($12 million) website
This project will widen Oregon 99 from East Glenwood Road to Coleman Creek Bridge, improving safety, as well as pedestrian and bicycle accessibility. Other improvements include adding streetlights at four intersections, a new drainage system, and several mid-block pedestrian crossings with flashing beacons.
Watch for intermittent lane closures on OR 99 through the work zone, Monday through Friday.
OREGON 99/OREGON 238/OREGON 62 (Medford), Big X Intersection ($15.9 million), website
This project will replace ADA ramps, repair damaged areas of the road, repave the travel lanes, rehabilitate several bridge decks, improve drainage and provide traffic signal upgrades.
Watch for nighttime (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closures from Sunday night to Friday morning. Expect minor delays.
OREGON 234 (Sams Valley Highway), MP 15, Pavement repair, website
This project will repair sunken pavement on Oregon 234 west of Eagle Point. Crews must excavate to an estimated depth of 20 to 30 feet to remove damaged materials and then rebuild the road.
The highway is closed between Modoc Road and Dodge Road until late October or early November. A detour is available using Dodge Road and Antioch Road. Travelers will also be able to take Antioch Road and Modoc Road south to Table Rock Road to connect to Oregon 140 and Oregon 62 in White City.
JOSEPHINE COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 1-163, Southern Oregon Wrong Way Driver Mitigation project ($2.5 million), website

INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 58.1-66.7, Monument Drive to north Grants Pass ($25 million), website
This project area, located north of Grants Pass, involves 10 miles of I-5 and ramps at four interchanges. The project will repair pavement along the I-5 travel lanes and ramps, replace bridge joints, remove roadside hazards and install guardrail. Construction is scheduled for completion in fall 2026.
The first phase of work involves removing hazard trees and vegetation along the side of I-5 in four areas: North Grants Pass (Exit 58), Merlin (Exit 61), Manzanita Rest Area (NB/SB MP 62), and Monument Drive (Exit 66). Work will take place Monday to Friday during daylight hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures and brief delays in both directions of I-5. Watch for construction signs and traffic control devices. The rest areas will remain open during this work phase.
