Aurora-Donald Interchange |
Thanks for your patience – northbound I-5 traffic is now using the center part of the new bridge!
Over the weekend, we shifted northbound traffic onto the new I-5 bridge over Ehlen Road NE at the Aurora-Donald interchange at Exit 278.
What's next?
Now that traffic is off the old northbound I-5 bridge, we are:
- Closing Ehlen Road NE to all traffic under I-5 starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, while we demolish the old northbound I-5 bridge.
- Planning to reopen Ehlen Road NE by 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
- Continuing work on the new I-5 bridge.
Here's a view of the Aurora-Donald interchange, looking south. Check out how northbound I-5 traffic is moving through the area!
Keep our crews safe – slow down in the work zone
Our construction equipment is moving in and out of the area, often using the far left lane – avoid using this lane in the work zone.
Other impacts you can expect:
- Crews working daily, Sunday through Thursday with occasional night and weekend work. Up to two lanes closed nightly in either direction on I-5 as needed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
- Other roads in the project area to have single lane closures as needed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Reduced speed to 55 mph in the I-5 work zone.
- Construction noise and delays.
- No lane changes allowed where there are double white lines.
Use caution as you drive through the work zone, there are grooves in the pavement along the median shoulder.
  Funding information
While ODOT’s funding crisis is having a profound impact on maintenance and operations, most projects will continue. These projects are typically funded through separate programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to project development and cannot be used for maintenance or day-to-day operations. For more information on ODOT’s funding crisis, visit our website.

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work. Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
