OR 47 full road closure extended
Our schedule has changed
We had hoped to reopen OR 47 in Mist by August 21, but unexpected complications have delayed our progress. With the remaining work to be done, we now expect to reopen one lane of traffic and pedestrian access on September 2.
This work is weather-dependent and our schedule may still change. We'll keep you updated on our progress.
If you're in the area, you can expect:
- OR 47 to remain closed on both sides of Messing Creek in Mist.
- A signed detour to get around the closure using OR 47, Apiary Road and U.S. 30.
- No pedestrian or local access across the bridge.
- Crews working Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Occasional night work as needed.
- Construction noise and delays.
Thank you for your patience while we work to build a new culvert for Messing Creek to improve road drainage and fish passage.
Are you a parent or teacher at Mist Grade School?
We've been working closely to keep the Vernonia School District up-to-date on project information and changes to our schedule. Construction delays could impact the 2025-2026 school year. If you have questions, please reach out to:

-
Michelle Eagleson | Vernonia and Mist Elementary Principal | 503-429-1333
Funding information
While ODOT’s funding crisis is having a profound impact on maintenance and operations, most projects will continue. These projects are typically funded through separate programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to project development and cannot be used for maintenance or day-to-day operations. For more information on ODOT’s funding crisis, visit our website.

Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work. Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
