Cornelius Pass Road will be closed Aug. 5-6 for pavement preservation work

Closures will be 8 a.m. 5 p.m. each day, with limited local access and detour options

July 28, 2025

PORTLAND – Cornelius Pass Road will be closed Aug. 5 and 6 for chip sealing work – vital preservation to extend the lifespan of the pavement.

The road, also known as OR 127 maintained by ODOT, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Tuesday, Aug. 5, and Wednesday, Aug. 6,

We recommend that travelers wishing to drive the entire length of Cornelius Pass Road between U.S. 26 and U.S. 30 use U.S. Interstate 405 to avoid delays during the two days of work.

Closure details

  • The section from U.S. 30 to NW Skyline Boulevard will be open to local traffic only. Local drivers, please slow down and watch for flaggers.
  • The section from Skyline Boulevard to the south end of Old Cornelius Pass Road will be fully closed, with a detour on Old Cornelius Pass Road.
  • The recommended detour for the entire length of the road is to use I-405 and U.S. 26 and U.S. 30.

Construction schedules are subject to change, so please check TripCheck.com whenever you’re about to travel in Oregon.

ODOT funding

Due to ongoing funding challenges, we are delaying or canceling some planned maintenance activities, but this pavement preservation work will be done as scheduled. ODOT is experiencing a significant and immediate funding shortfall that is resulting in staff layoffs and reduced capacity across the agency. Without new revenue or flexibility in spending, ODOT is forced to make deep cuts and lay off hundreds of people to stay within its budget.
