TIGARD – Both directions of OR 217 will close between SW Greenburg Road and OR 99W for one night Saturday, July 26, to safely remove the temporary pedestrian bridge over the highway.

People walking, cycling and rolling will have access across the highway using one of the sidewalks on the nearly complete Hall Boulevard overpass before the temporary bridge is removed. There will be some nighttime noise during the removal of the temporary bridge.

Both northbound and southbound OR 217 will close at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 26, and reopen by 8 a.m. Sunday, July 27. The temporary bridge will be removed from its supports and placed onto the newly built overpass to be fully dismantled.

During the overnight work, southbound traffic will exit at SW Greenburg Road, and northbound traffic will exit at OR 99W.

Also overnight, these on-ramps will be closed:

  • Southbound Hall Boulevard, Scholls Ferry Road and Greenburg Road.
  • Northbound 72nd Avenue and OR 99W.

Recommended detour:

Overnight OR 217 traffic should consider avoiding the highway by following the signed detour using Interstate 5 to the south of the closure area, Interstate 405 through Portland and U.S. 26 to the north of the closure area.

Next steps at Hall Boulevard

One of the sidewalks on the nearly-complete Hall Boulevard overpass will open to people walking, cycling and rolling beginning July 26. After the contractor removes the temporary pedestrian bridge the night of July 26, it will be placed onto the vehicle lanes of the overpass for dismantling.

We expect the new overpass to open to traffic in August.

About the project

Construction on the OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project is on schedule be completed by the end of December. The project is adding auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely.

We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.

ODOT funding impacts

While the funding crisis is having a profound effect on ODOT’s maintenance and operations, most construction projects will continue as planned. These projects are typically funded through separate capital programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to projects development and cannot be redirected for maintenance or day-to-day operations. Delays may still occur due to a reduced workforce. Fewer available staff for traffic control, inspections and project oversight could slow down timelines or introduce challenges in project delivery.
