I-5 Aurora-Donald Interchange
We're making progress at the Aurora-Donald interchange at Exit 278.
Plan ahead – we're closing the on-ramp to northbound I-5 at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20
We're lowering the ramp by four to eight feet to meet the new elevation. Here's what you can expect:
- Cars to detour around the closure using Ehlen Road NE to OR 551 and use the I-5 on-ramp heading to Wilsonville.
- Semi-trucks to detour around the closure using the southbound on-ramp at the Aurora-Donald interchange, take Exit 271 in Woodburn to get on northbound I-5.
- The on-ramp closure to last for about 14 days.
Detour map showing how cars can get around the ramp closure.
Don't forget to slow down on I-5 in the work zone
Our construction equipment is moving in and out of the area, often using the far left lane – avoid using this in the work zone.
Other impacts you can expect:
- Crews working daily, Sunday through Thursday with occasional night and weekend work. Up to two lanes closed nightly in either direction on I-5 as needed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
- Other roads in the project area to have single lane closures as needed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Reduced speed to 55 mph in the I-5 work zone.
- Construction noise and delays.
Use caution as you drive through the work zone, there are grooves in the pavement along the median shoulder.
Funding information
While the funding crisis is having a profound effect on ODOT’s maintenance and operations, most construction projects will continue as planned. These projects are typically funded through separate capital programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to project development and cannot be redirected for maintenance or day-to-day operations.
Delays may still occur due to a reduced workforce. Fewer available staff for traffic control, inspections and project oversight could slow down timelines or introduce challenges in project delivery. For more information on ODOT’s funding crisis, visit our website.

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work. Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
