Work started on the Woodburn Safe Routes to School Project 

You may have seen our crews near OR 214 and N Front Street preparing for construction to bring safety improvements for students and other pedestrians in the area. 

We plan to have this work wrapped up by the end of August so it's ready for the new school year!

During construction, you can expect:

• Crews working Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• The N Front Street connector ramp to OR 214 to close to all semi truck traffic during short portions of the project. 
• Temporary width restriction to 11.5 feet on both directions of OR 214 near the N Front Street connector ramp.
• Traffic along N Front Street to shift slightly through the work zone. 
• Construction noise and debris – cutting through concrete can be loud and dusty!
• Minimal delays.

A safer route for pedestrians

Funded by the Safe Routes to School program, we're working with the City of Woodburn to add:

• A pedestrian crossing near the OR 214 on and off-ramp from N Front Street.
• A protected walkway along N Front Street, with lighting improvements.

Semi trucks and wider loads need to detour around the work zone

Drivers can get around the N Front Street ramp restriction by following one of our detours:

• Eastbound OR 214 traffic can turn right at Pacific Highway, right onto Young Street and right onto N Front Street. 
• Westbound OR 214 traffic can turn right to Boones Ferry Road, right onto Crosby Road and right onto N Front Street. 
• Northbound traffic on N Front Street can turn left onto Crosby Road NE, left onto Boones Ferry Road and right onto OR 214. 
• Southbound traffic on N Front Street can turn left onto Young Street, left onto Pacific Highway and left onto OR 214.

Oversized loads that are wider than 16-feet cannot use the detours

Instead:

• On weekdays, unannounced loads can be accommodated with minimal delay.
• On evenings and weekends, accommodations are a case-by-case basis with 24-hours advanced notice.

Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers. 

Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
