I-5 Salem – Albany Traffic Cameras and VMS Installation

Nighttime work starts next week

You may have seen our crews on I-5 between Salem and Albany over the last several months working to install traffic cameras and message signs.  Over the next several weeks, we're installing the metal structures we'll mount the overhead signs to at four spots along I-5: July 7 - July 8 at Milepost 245. July 9 - July 10 at Milepost 240. July 14 - July 15 at Milepost 262. July 16 - July 17 at Milepost 257.

You can expect: Crews working at night to install the metal structures for the new overhead signs. Nighttime shoulder and lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as needed. Crews working during the day to complete other project tasks, Monday through Friday. Construction noise – drilling to install these sign bridges can be noisy. Occasional delays.​​

We've been drilling holes to prepare for installing the new overhead signs.

Funding information

The Oregon Legislature did not provide the funding or spending flexibility necessary to avoid layoffs at ODOT. While the funding crisis is having a profound effect on ODOT’s maintenance and operations, most construction projects will continue as planned.

These projects are typically funded through separate capital programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to projects development and cannot be redirected for maintenance or day-to-day operations. Delays may still occur due to a reduced workforce. Fewer available staff for traffic control, inspections and project oversight could slow down timelines or introduce challenges in project delivery.

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.  Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
