Sections of Marquam Bridge and ramps will close the nights of June 16-20 for regular inspections

June 11, 2025

PORTLAND – Bridge inspections will require overnight closures of sections of the Marquam Bridge and on- and off-ramps for up to five nights starting the night of Monday, June 16.

Each closure will start at 10 p.m., and the inspected section will reopen by 5 a.m. the next day. The inspections will affect traffic on Interstates 5 and 84, and ramps and lanes leading to the bridge.

Detour signs will be in place for each night’s closure. Plan a little extra time into your trip if you use the Marquam Bridge at night during the week.

The closure schedule, subject to change depending on weather and other factors, for each night:

  • June 16-17: Southbound I-5 over the bridge
  • June 17-18: Southbound I-5 over the bridge and inner lanes of SE Hawthorne Boulevard
  • June 18-19: Northbound I-5 to eastbound I-84 – the Y ramp – and both eastbound and westbound outer lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard
  • Nights of June 19 and 20: To be determined, depending upon what will be needed to finish the inspections.

ODOT inspects its bridges regularly every two years and anytime there is an incident that can cause damage such as a crash or flooding. The regular biennial inspections will continue in the Portland area through spring and summer.

This is the tentative schedule for the next bridge inspections in Portland:

  • July 6-11: Fremont Bridge (I-405) – upper and lower decks on separate nights
  • 18-22: Steel Bridge – daytime lane closures only
