Work continues at the base of the Abernethy Bridge
Bridge foundation work continues
One of the final pieces of foundation work needed to make the Abernethy Bridge able to withstand a major earthquake continues. This work requires pile driving at the base of the bridge on the Oregon City side during daylight hours Monday through Saturday.
No pile driving will occur during the Memorial Day weekend.
We know the noise from construction work can be disruptive. We appreciate your patience.
Residents in the vicinity of the construction area should anticipate elevated noise levels while this work is occurring. A 24/7 nighttime noise hotline is available at: 503-276-7809.
Follow the progress live on the project construction cameras.
Memorial Day weekend travel
Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the start of the summer travel season and AAA expects it to be one of the busiest on record, with nearly half a million Oregonians hitting the road. Plan ahead and make smart choices.
- Use TripCheck.com to see up-to-date road conditions, work zones, and traffic cameras across Oregon.
- Leave early and allow extra time for your drive.
- Consider alternatives to driving alone like using public transit or carpooling.
Work zones require your full attention
While most construction work on the I-205 Abernethy Bridge Project will pause during the holiday weekend, drivers are encouraged to remain alert in all work zones.
- Stay alert. Work zones may still be active, even if crews aren't visible. Barriers, lane shifts, and narrow shoulders remain dangerous.
- Slow down in work zones.

ODOT is upgrading the Abernethy Bridge, which spans the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, to withstand a major earthquake. Additional improvements are being made to the bridge's adjacent on- and off-ramps to improve safety. This work is expected to be completed in 2026.
