PORTLAND – ODOT bridge inspections will require overnight closures of sections of the Morrison Bridge and nearby ramps for four nights starting the night of Tuesday, May 27.
Detour signs will be in place for each night’s closure. Plan a little extra time into your trip if you use the Morrison Bridge at night during the week.
Each closure will start at 10 p.m., and the inspected section will reopen by 5 a.m. the next morning. Inspections will require lane closures leading up to these work zones, including the ramp from westbound Interstate 84 to northbound Interstate 5 on the night of May 28-29. A fourth night, May 30-31, might be required to complete this round of bridge inspections.
The closure schedule, subject to change depending on weather and other factors, for each night:
-
May 27-28: Southbound I-5 ramp to eastbound SE Belmont Street
-
May 28-29: Westbound I-84 ramp to northbound I-5
-
May 29-30: Westbound SE Morrison Street ramp to northbound I-5
-
May 30-31: If needed, any closures and detours will be marked with signs before work begins.
ODOT inspects its bridges regularly every two years and anytime there is an incident that can cause damage such as a crash or flooding. The regular biennial inspections will continue in the Portland area through spring and summer.
This is the tentative schedule for the next bridge inspections in Portland:
-
June 16-20: Marquam Bridge – Southbound I-5 from I-405 to the Marquam Bridge
-
July 6-11: Fremont Bridge (I-405) – upper and lower decks on separate nights
-
18-22: Steel Bridge – daytime lane closures only
