U.S. 101B: Old Youngs Bay Bridge Maintenance Repairs

Maintenance repairs start this summer

This summer, we're making repairs to the Old Youngs Bay Bridge by:

• Replacing four timber support beams under the bridge, also called a cap.
• Replacing one timber foundation support posts under the bridge, also called a pile.

When work starts, you can expect: Single lane closures Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Up to four full daytime bridge closures with detours. Construction noise and delays.

We expect each full bridge closure to be about two weeks apart. While we don't currently know when the closures will start, we'll send out an email when we have a schedule.

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers. Remember: fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not. ​

About Bridge Funding and Replacement

Our funding to maintain, preserve and replace bridges is limited by the structural revenue issue our agency faces. At the rate we're currently replacing bridges, it would take us almost 900 years to replace all of the bridges on the state highway network.

We will not allow Oregonians to travel on unsafe bridges, but as bridges age it will steadily cost more to maintain them. Over time these bridges will face weight restrictions and eventual closure without timely replacement.
