Future Work - Piledriving for bridge foundation work
Coming this summer, May-June 2025 (tentative)
Entering Spring, most of the foundation work needed to make the bridge able withstand a major earthquake is complete. One of the final pieces of foundation work is set to begin in mid-May and could last four weeks. This portion of the project will require piledriving at the base of the bridge on the Oregon City side during daylight hours.
More details will be provided before construction begins.
Demolition work continues on the I-205 Abernethy Bridge decks.
Overnight deck demolition work to remove portions of the existing bridge deck in preparation for the eventual widening of the structure continued this week. After pausing for the weekend, work will resume Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9.
Demolition work will continue through May. Work will happen from 9:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. each night. Some work will occur during the daytime, when it can be done safely.
Follow the progress live on the project construction cameras.
We know the noise from construction work can be disruptive. We appreciate your patience.
Residents in the vicinity of the construction area should anticipate elevated noise levels while this work is occurring. A 24/7 nighttime noise hotline is available at: 503-276-7809.
Rock excavation work continues under the Abernethy Bridge on the West Linn side adjacent to OR 43. This work focuses on excavating channels through solid basalt to accommodate waterline installation.
The majority of the work will happen between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a chance overnight excavation work may be necessary.

ODOT is upgrading the Abernethy Bridge, which spans the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, to withstand a major earthquake. Additional improvements are being made to the bridge's adjacent on- and off-ramps to improve safety. This work is expected to be completed in 2026.
