The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is looking for high school or alternative school graduates to join our High School to Highway (H2H) program!
To be considered, you must have received your high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) between January 1, 2023 and July 1, 2025.
This program is designed to help you learn about state government, maintenance work and construction projects. During this one-year, full time paid training program, trainees will work on a dedicated maintenance crew to repair and maintain roadways, bridges, structures, signs and facilities.
We’re hiring for 12 trainees in over 12 locations throughout Oregon! Each have their own close date, so make sure to apply today!

What's in it for you

We’ll teach you everything: You do not need to have any prior maintenance or construction experience. We’ll teach you everything you need to know and help you get your class A commercial driver’s license (CDL)!

Benefits: health benefits, sick leave, 11 paid holidays a year, and after six months of employment, retirement benefits and enrollment in the Oregon Savings Growth Plan.

Pay increase after 6 months: your salary starts at $3,856 per month. After successfully completing six months in the program, your salary will increase to $4,023.

Future opportunities: After successfully completing the program, you will have the skills and experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications for our transportation maintenance specialist classification. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about tips and resources to help you apply for jobs with the state while in training. This knowledge and experience can help if you decide to apply for permanent positions with us!
