Astoria-Megler Bridge Closures

Early June through late September, expect single-lane daytime closures

This summer, you'll see our crews replacing some of the Astoria-Megler Bridge supports and concrete bases. While most of the work will happen below the bridge, we'll still need daily single lane closures for the safety of our crew and the traveling public.

Starting early-June, you can expect: Daytime single lane closures Monday through Thursday and until noon on Friday. A temporary work platform under the bridge. Construction noise and delays.

The Astoria-Megler Bridge, at 21,474 feet, is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America!

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers. Remember: fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not. ​

About Bridge Funding and Replacement

Our funding to maintain, preserve and replace bridges is limited by the structural revenue issue our agency faces. At the rate we're currently replacing bridges, it would take us almost 900 years to replace all of the bridges on the state highway network.

We will not allow Oregonians to travel on unsafe bridges, but as bridges age it will steadily cost more to maintain them. Over time these bridges will face weight restrictions and eventual closure without timely replacement.
