DMV News: CDL Changes Coming May 12

Starting May 12, 2025, Oregon DMV will begin electronically verifying CDL medical qualifications and will no longer accept paper Medical Examiner’s Certificates (medical cards) from individuals.

Certified Medical Examiners already upload examination results directly to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)’s National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. They are currently required to upload the medical certification results to the registry by midnight the day following the medical exam. Beginning May 12, these results will then be electronically transmitted from the FMCSA National Registry to DMV through the Commercial Driver's License Information System (CDLIS) and incorporated into the driver's record automatically. If a driver has undergone an examination that is not reflected on their record after this date, they should reach out to the examiner.

Applicants and holders of CDLs and CLPs must continue to have their medical examinations conducted by a certified medical examiner. CDL and CLP drivers are still obligated to carry any federal medical exemption, Skill Performance Evaluation or an Oregon CDL waiver while on duty.

This update is being implemented to comply with the FMCSA Medical Examiner’s Certification Integration (National Registry II) final rule as outlined in 49 CFR §383.73(o)(1)(ii)(B).

For any inquiries, please contact Oregon DMV CDL Programs at DMV_CDLPolicyUnit@odot.oregon.gov.

Upcoming Construction at LaGrande Eastbound Weigh Station

Our eastbound LaGrande Weigh Station is going to be closed for construction from approximately May 5, 2025, through June 15, 2025.

While the site is closed for construction, there will be no parking and no through traffic will be allowed; the site will be completely closed for safety. The closure will be clearly signaled to all drivers, as we will have signs, cones and lights to make sure everyone knows to bypass the site.

Please plan accordingly. We apologize for any inconvenience.
