Center Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project

We're inspecting the Center Street Bridge

You'll see us inspecting the Center Street Bridge starting May 5 using a large vehicle called a snooper truck. This vehicle can extend over the edge and underneath the bridge, allowing us to get a close up view. This inspection will help us gather information in preparation for our project starting in 2026 to make the bridge earthquake-ready.

Starting May 5, you can expect about four nights of inspection work, Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., which includes:

• Front Street closures – a full closure of southbound Front Street and the left lane closed on northbound Front Street.
• The off-ramps to northbound and southbound Front Street to close for up to four nights each.
• Up to two lanes closed on Center Street Bridge.
• Detours, noise and delays.

About Bridge Funding and Replacement

Our funding to maintain, preserve and replace bridges is limited by the structural revenue issue our agency faces. At the rate we're currently replacing bridges, it would take us almost 900 years to replace all of the bridges on the state highway network.

We will not allow Oregonians to travel on unsafe bridges, but as bridges age it will steadily cost more to maintain them. Over time these bridges will face weight restrictions and eventual closure without timely replacement.
