PORTLAND – Biennial ODOT bridge inspections will require overnight full closures of sections of Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 around the Marquam Bridge over five nights starting Sunday night.
The full closures are scheduled for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, starting Sunday, April 20, with completion expected by early Friday morning, April 24.
The work also will require lane closures leading up to these work zones. Watch for warning and detour signs.
Closures:
- I-5 southbound between I-405 and Marquam Bridge. Detour: Use Exit 302B to I-405
- I-5 northbound ramp to eastbound I-84. Detour: Use I-5 southbound to I-405 northbound
ODOT inspects its bridges regularly every two years and anytime there is an incident that can cause damage such as a crash or flooding. The regular biennial inspections will continue in the Portland area through spring and summer. This is the tentative schedule for overnight inspections:

May: Southbound I-5 to Morrison Bridge, SE Morrison to northbound I-5, and Morrison Bridge to northbound I-5 and eastbound I-84

June: Southbound I-5 from I-405 to the Marquam Bridge

July: Fremont Bridge (I-405) – upper and lower decks on separate nights

August: Steel Bridge – daytime lane closures only
