Salt Creek Bridge Replacement
|

You may have seen our crews working to replace the OR 58 Salt Creek Bridge near milepost 43, east of Oakridge.
We're starting to build the temporary detour bridge to help reduce impacts to travelers. After that's been built, we'll shift traffic onto it so we can build the new permanent Salt Creek Bridge.
Stay tuned – we'll give you a heads up before we shift traffic onto the temporary detour bridge.
|
If you're driving through the area, here's what you can expect:
-
Crews working during the day and in multiple work zones.
• We're removing hazardous trees and building the detour bridge in two nearby but separate areas.
-
Single lane closures with traffic controlled by an automated flagger assistant device, also known as an AFAD.
-
Flaggers to help direct traffic as needed.
• These flaggers are ensuring travelers are slowing down before driving around curves and approaching the AFAD.
- Construction noise and delays.
Watch for the automated flagger assistant device!
As you approach the work zone, you'll see an automated flagger assistant device, or AFAD, at both ends to help guide you through the work zone while keeping our workers safe.
Think of these devices as being the same as a traffic signal or a flagger with a stop-and-go paddle directing traffic.
While you may not see anyone, there is a worker nearby controlling the AFAD making sure traffic is moving smoothly.
|
When you see an automated flagger assistant device, remember to:
- Stop when the light is red and the flag is down.
- Wait for the arm to be fully up before you start moving.
- Drive carefully when the light is flashing orange and the flag is up.
Thank you for helping keep our workers and work zone safe for everyone!

Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
