Southwest Oregon Construction Report for three weeks: Dec. 22, 2024 to Jan. 11, 2025

 

Due to the holidays, the following report will be for THREE WEEKS (Dec. 22 to Jan. 11). It includes ODOT highways in Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Curry and Douglas counties. Projects are listed in the following order: highway, location, project name. Project construction costs are provided when the information is available.

Pedestrian routes: Where traffic is routed through or around a work zone, pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work zone.

COOS COUNTY

OREGON 540 (Cape Arago Highway/Broadway Ave.), MP 1.6-1.8, North Bend sewer line replacement

The City of North Bend will replace the sewer line along Cape Arago Highway (Broadway Ave.) between Lewis St. and Newmark Ave. Installation of pipes and paving should be finished by the end of the year. All work, including striping, is scheduled to be completed in January 2025.

The work is scheduled for nights, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Watch for construction on Clark Street and on Broadway between Lewis and Newmark. Drivers should watch for nighttime lane closures on Broadway and delays up to 20 minutes.

OREGON 542 (Powers Highway/1st Street), MP 17.8-18.2, Safe Routes to School Grant Funds Project to the City of Powers ($984,000)

This project will add new curb and gutters, sidewalks, and intersection improvements including ADA ramps along Oregon 542 (1st Street) in the city limits between Alder Street and Fig Street.

Watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures through the work zone. During sidewalk closures, alternate pedestrian routes will be signed and provided.

 

CURRY COUNTY

U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 303-351, Emergency roadway repair ($4,533,196)

This is an emergency project that will repair several sections of U.S. 101 in Curry County where the road surface has sunken. Most work is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 31.

Construction will take place in two areas south of Port Orford (MP 303-306 and MP 315-316) and two areas north of Brookings (MP 342-345 and MP 350-351).

On U.S. 101, watch for advance warning signs indicating lane closures and loose gravel. The highway is limited to a single lane of traffic through these work zone areas. Traffic control will be provided by automated flaggers. Delays will be less than 20 minutes.

U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 327-330 and MP 355-358, Gold Beach and Brookings pavement repairs ($163,144)

This project will provide pavement repairs (grind/inlay) at several locations in Gold Beach and Brookings, as well as more extensive deep base repairs (dig outs) in Gold Beach.

Work will take place from Monday to Friday during daylight hours. Watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures on U.S. 101 in both cities. In some areas, the highway may be limited to a single lane with flaggers providing traffic control. Delays will be less than 20 minutes.

 

DOUGLAS COUNTY

U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 219-222, Tree and vegetation removal project ($100,000)

Watch for intermittent lane closures on U.S. 101 between milepost 219 and 222 for tree and vegetation removal work. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed. All work is expected to be completed by the middle of March.

 

JACKSON COUNTY

OREGON 99 (Rogue Valley Highway), MP 10.2 to 11, Glenwood to Coleman Creek utility work ($12 million)

This project will widen Oregon 99 from East Glenwood Road to Coleman Creek Bridge, improving safety, as well as pedestrian and bicycle accessibility. Other improvements include adding streetlights at four intersections, a new drainage system, and several mid-block pedestrian crossings with flashing beacons.

Watch for intermittent lane closures through the work zone, Monday through Friday.

OREGON 99/OREGON 238/OREGON 62 (Medford), Big X Intersection ($15.9 million), website

This project will replace ADA ramps, repair damaged areas of the road, repave the travel lanes, rehabilitate several bridge decks, improve drainage and provide traffic signal upgrades.

Watch for nighttime (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closures from Sunday night to Friday morning.

 

JOSEPHINE COUNTY

No construction impacts are expected on state highways in Josephine County this week.
