Holiday Travel Restrictions for Over-Dimension Loads

Holiday Travel Restrictions for Over-Dimension Loads

The following travel restrictions will apply for the Christmas and New Year Holidays.

Non-divisible loads (including mobile units and modular buildings) cannot be moved if over 8 feet, 6 inches in width: 

  • From 12 noon Tuesday, December 24th, until one half-hour before sunrise Thursday, December 26th
  • From noon Tuesday, December 31st, until one half-hour before sunrise Thursday, January 2nd, 2025

Exceptions:

Regular movement for non-divisible loads allowed on Thursday starting at 12:01 a.m. during Hours of Darkness up to 12 feet wide on interstates and up to 10 feet wide on other green routes listed on Route Map 2.

Regular movement for mobile units and modular buildings allowed on Thursday starting at 12:01 a.m. during hours of darkness up to 10 feet wide only on interstates only.

Triple trailer combinations cannot operate on those routes shown as Holiday or Holiday and Weekend restricted on Route Map 5:

  • From 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 24th until 12:01 a.m. Thursday, December 26th
  • From 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 31st until 12:01 a.m. Thursday, January 2nd, 2025

Towed units cannot be moved if over 8 feet, 6 inches in width or towing a combination of vehicles:

  • From 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 24th, until one half-hour before sunrise Thursday, December 26th
  • From 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31st, until one half-hour before sunrise Thursday, January 2nd, 2025

Exception:

This rule does not apply when the tow vehicle is performing the initial emergency removal of a disabled unit from the highway or when the disabled vehicle or combination of vehicles is operating under a rule or variance permit allowing movement prior to the emergency. See Special Transportation Permit Attachment H for specific hauling hours and days for overwidth movement.

Long logs, poles, and pilings cannot be moved if more than 105 feet in overall combination length:

  • From 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 24th, until sunrise Thursday, December 26th
  • From 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31st, until sunrise Thursday, January 2nd, 2025
