Work zones ahead: time to slow down
Is the song "I can't drive...55" on repeat in your head when traveling on I-5 through our multiple work zones? It's a good song but not good advice because you can – and should when driving through a work zone with a posted speed of 55 mph.
Summer may be over, but we still have active construction on many of our highways. Remember that when you see cones, you're in a work zone and that means it's time to slow down.
Our crews are often just a few feet away from traffic while working. So use caution, slow down and stay alert. Together, we can make sure these work zones stay safe for everyone!
And remember, traffic fines double whether workers are present or not.

Watch our latest project video update on Flickr that highlights how close our crews work next to the highway. There's also some great footage of the I-5 South Commercial Street Bridge demolition in south Salem!
You CAN drive 55 mph...through these work zones
I-5 Widening Project: Kuebler Boulevard to Delaney Road
Our crews have been working hard on the I-5 widening project between Kuebler Boulevard and Delaney Road. We've shifted both lanes of traffic and recently demolished the South Commercial Street Bridge.
Our next steps include preparing the area to build a new soundwall, widen southbound I-5 and build a new bridge on South Commercial Street. To do this work safely, we reduced the speed limit in the work zone to 55 mph.

I-5 Exit 278 Aurora-Donald Interchange
Construction has been underway on I-5 at Aurora-Donald Exit 278 while our crews build a new diverging diamond interchange.
We've shifted traffic to allow room for crews to build the first section of the new I-5 bridge in the center median between the north and southbound lanes. Speed is reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.

Curious where other work zones are in Oregon?
See what else is being constructed on the roads around your community by visiting our webpage. Explore our interactive map to see what we're working on.
Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.

Access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available through or around work zones.
Don't keep this a secret – help us spread the word!
Please share this email with your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else you think may need to know about construction in the area and encourage them to sign up to receive project alerts for south Salem and for the Aurora, Donald and Woodburn areas!
