Getting Trained in AWP

Laptop Computer

Before you can work in AASHTOWare Project (AWP), you must attend training!

AWP is a remarkable program. It gives you a place to record data for your contract that can be entered once and used many times. It provides just what you will need to do your work. You see what you use when you’re in your role. You don’t have to see everybody else’s data if you don’t need it.

Even though AWP is straightforward, it is not always intuitive. You will need training to use the system correctly. When your office has its first AWP contract awarded, we will train you at your location. Training is provided for the RE Office/Consultant Office as well as the Prime, subcontractors, technicians and vendors. We require that everyone who works in AWP receives training prior to having access.

Watch for your training opportunities. Don’t miss out. Training is for internal ODOT users, Consultants, Prime Contractors, subcontractors, technicians and vendors. Remember! If your staff is not trained, it will delay your project!

Not in an AWP project? Take a moment to complete the Getting Started course at any time before training. It only takes about 15 minutes. It is a pre-requisite for all the computer-based trainings (CBTs) and for all in-person training! This course is available in Workday using the link. (External Users: You’ll need to have a Workday account to view a CBT. You also need your account for any new CBT you take. Internal ODOT users have single sign-on access.)

If you have questions, check out our AWP website for resources or send us an email at AWPadmin@odot.Oregon.gov.

APOST Completion

Finish Line Race Car

October marked the end of the APOST project development! This means we have moved into deployment. We are now refining the AWP system.

As we transition, we also say goodbye to our Steering Committee and move to a new structure of leadership. We want to thank our steering committee members for providing leadership and commitment to this project.

Kevin Brophy, Tony Sutton,
Angela Crain, Mike Lipsmeyer,
Larry Ilg, Cye Fink,
Greg Stellmach, JW Beatty,
Maggy Espitia, Matt Ausec,
Vanessa Baker, John Oberdiek

To our sponsors
David Kim and Justin Moderie,
thank you for being our champions!

David came in and helped provide stability to the APOST team. He handled any budget issues that arose. He escalated issues to resolution. Justin joined when we were in full swing on the project. He brought great perspective. He served as our liaison between externals (Primes and Subcontractors). And Justin supported us with the construction offices. Thank you both for your dedication.

APOST Celebration Party

APOST Celebration Party Cake

APOST (AASHTOWare Project One Source of Truth) was our development project as we worked to prepare AWP for ODOT. APOST was a part of our e-Construction program.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, we celebrated our APOST successes as we move to the implementation part of AWP. We held a party at the ODOT Materials Lab in Salem with many different groups who had participated in APOST. We focused on our shared experiences and accomplishments.

Let’s Talk About It

Talk Bubbles

As more contracts come online and we are doing work in AWP, we’re seeing more users come to the Teams Live AWP Chat. This Teams meeting is available every workday, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. One of our SysAdmin team members is available to assist you. We have access to many other experts as well. We can help you work through any AWP problem you are experiencing. Stop by! Use the AWP Live Support link on the right to join us.

Resources You Need

Looking for directions?
You can find resources on our website!

  • Computer based training (CBTs) and quick reference guides (QRGs) – Click the Training button. Select your AWP role to discover CBT links to Workday or printable QRGs. Choose from the list to review a specific process. Use them to become confident with the AWP steps for your job.
  • AASHTOWare Project Directory (AWD) – Use the AWD link under Resources for what is uploaded into Doc Express in the new AWP drawer structure or what is now entered into AWP. We use AWP to record data. There are still things like plans, forms, and more staying in Doc Express. For every AWP-only process there’s a link to the helpful QRG included on the AWD.
  • Still Need Assistance? – Are our Live Chat, CBTs, and QRGs not giving you what you need? Feel free to email us! A sys admin team member will reply to you with help with your issue.

Super Users

Super User Snoopy

Super users work within an RE or Consultant office to be the first to assist internal and external users with AWP processes. They know your contract and how to work in AWP. They work in AWP every day.

Here’s a selection of our first Super Users. If you are in one of these offices, save the name of your local super user to get answers to your AWP questions.
