Plan for southbound I-5 traffic to shift next week |
Our crews have been working hard on the I-5 widening project between Kuebler Boulevard and Delaney Road. A couple weeks ago, we shifted northbound I-5 traffic onto the new alignment.
Next week, we'll shift southbound traffic so we can remove and replace the I-5 South Commercial Street bridge, plan ahead!
What's next?
October 6
The South Commercial Street I-5 on-ramp and I-5 Delaney Road off-ramp, Exit 248, will close at 9 p.m. and reopen in the morning on 10/7.
October 7
Southbound I-5 traffic will shift to the left to use the previous northbound lanes.
You can expect a new single-lane connection from South Commercial Street to southbound I-5.
Shifting traffic allows us to have a closed work zone, making it safer for drivers and our workers. North and southbound traffic will remain shifted for the next couple of years.

Curious how the southbound I-5 traffic shift will work?
Watch the video to see how your southbound commute is different and plan ahead!
About the work we've been doing
We're shifting both directions of I-5 traffic while we widen southbound to three lanes, build two soundwalls, remove and replace two bridges and pave both south and northbound lanes.
In general, you can expect:
- Crews working during the day and at night.
- Construction noise.
- Lane, shoulder and ramp closures as needed.

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
