Plan for northbound I-5 traffic to shift next week
|
Monday morning, on Sept. 23, northbound I-5 traffic will shift
You can expect:
-
Northbound traffic to shift to the right and use Exit 249 and the former I-5 on-ramp as the new northbound lanes for the next couple of years.
- A new concrete barrier between northbound I-5 traffic and cars coming from Delaney Road. Traffic coming from Delaney Road will not be able to access the Commercial Street ramp.
Shifting traffic allows us to work more efficiently and helps keep our workers safer.
Our schedules may change, please visit TripCheck.com for the most up to date information on road closures and traffic impacts.

Curious how the northbound I-5 traffic shift will work?
Watch the video to see how your northbound commute is different and plan ahead!
About the work we've been doing
You've likely seen our crews working on the I-5 corridor in south Salem, between Kuebler Boulevard at Exit 252 and Delaney Road at Exit 248.
Now that northbound I-5 traffic is shifting, next we'll prepare the original northbound lanes for southbound traffic for the upcoming southbound traffic shift in a few weeks.
You can expect:
- Crews working during the day and at night.
- Southbound I-5 lane and shoulder closures as we work in the median.
- Construction noise.
- Ramp closures as needed.

Pay attention in work zones, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
