Expect delays south of Canyonville for rock scaling work

CANYONVILLE – Beginning Monday, August 12, travelers on Interstate 5 south of Canyonville can expect delays of up to 20 minutes. Crews are completing a safety project to help prevent rocks and boulders from falling onto the roadway.

Drivers will see rolling slowdowns in the northbound and southbound lanes between Canyonville and Azalea, mileposts 101 and 89, during daytime hours (7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). The project is scheduled to last through Friday, August 16.

During a rolling slowdown, traffic control vehicles hold traffic to a slow but steady pace to give crews time to complete work. This allows the crews to work safely while avoiding lengthy road closures. Emergency vehicles are allowed to pass through, as needed.

Rock scaling helps crews identify and remove loose rocks and boulders from steep slopes. This helps prevent rocks from falling onto the road below, creating a hazard for people using the road.

If you plan to drive through this area, expect delays and factor in extra travel time. Visit TripCheck.com for the latest updates.
