On July 16 and 17, Oregon lawmakers will be in Albany and Eugene for their next stops on the Statewide Transportation Safety and Sustainability Outreach Tour. The public is encouraged to attend to share comments on the state’s transportation system and local needs.

In a release, Joint Committee on Transportation Chair Rep. Susan McLain said, "Oregon needs a transportation system that is safe, functional, and efficient. I want to thank the public for telling us about the transportation needs and solutions in their communities on the tour so far, and I look forward to seeing similar engagement as we continue to travel the state."

ODOT, along with transportation agencies across the state, is facing structural funding challenges that impact the agency’s ability to deliver core services and investments for Oregonians. State leaders are looking to fix that, and this tour is laying the roadmap.

The goal of the tour is to help legislators understand the unique needs of Oregonians and the challenges of maintaining a safe, accessible, and reliable transportation system. During the day, ODOT is partnering with local transit agencies, cities and counties to take legislators on a bus tour through the area to show the impacts of deteriorating roads, bridges vulnerable to earthquakes, unsafe bike and pedestrian paths, and more.

The public and media are encouraged to attend the public hearings Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Both hearings will be available via livestream on olis.oregonlegislature.gov.

Members of the public interested in testifying can register in person starting 30 minutes before the meeting begins. The committee will also hear remote testimony if time permits, which the public can register for on the committee's webpage at olis.oregonlegislature.gov. Additionally, written testimony can be submitted to the committee via email to JCT.exhibits@oregonlegislature.gov.

ODOT looks forward to continuing to work with Oregon legislators and the governor to identify sustainable funding solutions so that the agency can provide the essential maintenance and safety services Oregonians deserve.
