Melrose Road will close at South Umpqua River for two weeks starting July 21

Traffic will detour along Old Melrose Road, Harvard Avenue, Stewart Parkway and Garden Valley Boulevard

July 1, 2024

ROSEBURG – Starting early Sunday morning, July 21, Melrose Road will close for two weeks at the South Umpqua River so contractors can connect the road to both ends of the new Conn Ford Bridge.

During the closure, traffic from the Melrose area will detour onto Old Melrose Road, Harvard Avenue, Stewart Parkway and Garden Valley Boulevard. Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution along the detour.

When Melrose Road reopens on August 4, traffic will shift onto the new bridge. The closure will also allow prime contractor Farline Bridge Inc. to begin removing the bypass bridge, which has carried traffic across the river for nearly two years.

ODOT is partnering with Douglas County on this $22.6 million two-project bundle, which also replaces the Old Highway 99 Bridge in Oakland. Construction began on both bridges in early 2022 and most work is scheduled for completion by the end of summer.

For more information, visit the project website or contact ODOT Public Information Officer Dan Latham at Dan.Latham@odot.oregon.gov or 541-817-5200.

Questions can also be directed Douglas County Public Information Officer Tamara Howell at 541-957-4896 or Tamara.howell@douglascountyor.gov.
