Get Started! Now!

Alarm Clock

A majority of both
internal and external users
still have not taken
the Getting Started course
in Workday!

Don't wait until the last minute and miss your opportunity to take the Getting Started course for AASHTOWare Project (AWP), a prerequisite you must complete BEFORE you can register for any AWP training.

Internal ODOT users, as well as our external users (consultants, contractors, subcontractors, technicians, etc.) can take the Getting Started training in Workday at any time. This is a short (less than 15 minutes) and informative course.

Getting Started introduces you to navigation terms as well as how AWP looks and feels. You’ll get a head start with the program. This course helps you jump right into our computer-based training (CBT) simulations used in our class time because you’ll already know what to expect.

You can take it as often as you’d like, but you MUST finish this course before you register for any other AWP training.

Internal ODOT users can go directly to Workday on their state computers. If you are an external user, you will need to create a Workday account to register. Any questions? Contact us at odoteconstruction@odot.oregon.gov.

Super Users to the Rescue

Is this you?

  • Confident early adopter/enthusiastic about the system (not necessarily IT experts)
  • Open-minded and ready for change
  • Responsible and willing to lose face (but never lose faith)
  • Positive social capital
  • Patient with others, eager to learn
  • Thrive teaching teammates new things
  • Act as change agent
We Need You

We’re calling them Super Users, but you can consider this the role of AWP ambassador or ace AWP user. Super users work within an RE or Consultant office to be the first to assist internal and external users with AWP processes. Super users know the contract and how to work in AWP because they do it every day.

Could you be a super user? If this feels like a perfect fit for you or someone you know, contact us at odoteconstruction@odot.Oregon.gov. We need you!

Survey Says...

Survey Results

A huge thank you to all
who completed our OCM surveys
in March.

The survey results have been tabulated! The outcome shows that, by majority, those customers impacted by the implementation of AWP are ready to go! This reflects both internal and external to ODOT.

If you or your team aren't sure if you’re ready to go with AWP, reach out to the e-Construction team at odoteconstruction@odot.Oregon.gov.

We can arrange a visit with your team to provide a presentation and demonstration, and to answer any questions you have, to help you feel more comfortable. (Get us on your calendars before our staffing time is used up by training!)

QPL Test Drive Available

The qualified products list (QPL) search has had a facelift that will work directly with AWP. But you can use it now, even if you do not have a project in AWP!

You can search using any material, manufacturer, category, or product name. The search is very responsive and quick. You can also print the results individually or export an entire list of your results.

If you haven’t discovered the link yet on our Qualified Products webpage, take a moment to look it over at https://oregondot-pr-prod.infotechinc.com/Custom/qpl.

For more details, contact Dean Chess, ODOT Product Evaluation Coordinator.

Newsletter Subscriptions

We are stepping into AWP with new projects. Our first projects begin in early summer. So, we will move away for our APOST focus and devote our time to AWP-related topics. This means we’ll have a brand new newsletter coming soon.

If you’d like to continue receiving newsletters, you do not have to do anything. We’ll transfer our list to the new edition.

If you know people who are impacted by the implementation of AWP and would benefit from our AWP updates and information, simply forward this email to them. They can click on the Subscribe link below to be added to our mailing list.

If you’d like to discontinue receiving these newsletters, click on the Unsubscribe at the bottom of this newsletter in Manage Preferences.

Be Prepared BEFORE Training

AWP Initial Projects

Is one of your projects selected to be in our first group to be managed in AWP? Once the contract has been awarded to the Contractor, training will be coordinated with the appropriate ODOT Resident Engineer’s office and/or Consultants’ office.

Even if you do not have a project in this list, there are things that you can still do to prepare yourself or your office staff. This is what’s needed before training.

We’re here to help! If you have any questions, contact us at odoteconstruction@odot.oregon.gov.

Contractors (Primes and Subs) & Consultants

  • Each individual needs to create a Workday account.
  • Each individual needs to complete Getting Started training on Workday.
  • Company needs to complete OregonBuys registration.
  • Company needs to identify AWP users and their roles.
  • Company needs to confirm that their payroll system is ready to work with AWP (contractors only).

Internal ODOT Crews – Watch for communications regarding training for your first AWP project! (Each individual needs to complete Getting Started training on Workday.)

Excellence Award

Congratulations to James Sealy

James Sealy

For the past four years James Sealy has steadfastly worked on AASHTOWare Project. James volunteered to lead the pay estimates and the construction & materials subcommittees. He is also a member of the system administration and training teams, working on configuring AWP for ODOT processes. To say he is involved in this project is an understatement.

James has been responsible for ensuring the payment process transitions to AWP and that there are no hiccups in payments to the contractors. This includes working with ODOT financial services on a new payment handoff practice, contract administration engineer on how payments will be approved, working with specifications for escalation on fuel, asphalt, and concrete, and working with other subcommittees on how the data they are providing will move into the payment process.

James will be heavily involved in training as the AWP process is very different than the current payment process in CPS. Through all the pressure, James has always been available for questions, providing thoughtful input, kind, knowledgeable, and patient.

James you are a huge piece of the AWP puzzle, and we are so grateful to have you on our team!

Shout Outs

Multicolored Balloons

Big shout out to Mary Cole in ODOT Procurement Office! Mary has worked diligently on our contract process with Infotech and aiding us through every obstacle in the procurement process. You're incredible every single day, Mary! Thank you!

And another huge shout out to Hayley Roehrig and Travis Goldberg with ODOT Project Delivery for devoting so much of their time helping us land on a solution for our new AASHTOWare Directory. It's beautiful and we can't wait for all our users to experience the new simplicity. Travis, you're a wizard with Power BI. Thank you!
