Funds available to improve access to walking, rolling and public transportation

March 11, 2024

To friends of active and public transportation,

We're pleased to announce we'll be accepting applications for the second cycle of the Innovative Mobility Program microgrants, starting March 25.

Applicants can apply for up to $15,000 to support new and existing projects that improve access to public and active transportation for historically underserved groups. A total of $350,000 is available in 2024. We will accept applications on a rolling basis from March 25 - November 29 or until the yearly funding allocation is met. Although microgrant funding is not competitive, we have reserved $175,000 of funding for nonprofits and community-based organizations.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Local, regional, Tribal, and state government agencies (excluding ODOT).
  • Public schools, school districts, colleges and universities.
  • Transportation providers.
  • Businesses providing community services.
  • Nonprofits and entities with 501(c)(3) status.
  • Organizations with fiscal sponsorship from a nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status or public agency.

What types of projects are eligible?

The Innovative Mobility Program has a special focus on social equity and helping members of historically excluded groups get where they need to go more quickly, affordably and safely. We want to improve safety and access for those who walk and roll, while also making it easier to use other transportation modes besides driving alone.

We can fund a wide variety of projects including events, demonstration projects, lending libraries and shared mobility services, and transportation needs assessments, among others. We encourage innovation, collaboration and creativity in meeting the needs of underserved groups across Oregon!

Where can I get more information?

Join us for a webinar on March 18 to learn more about the program! Registration is required. We will also have a recording of the event for those unable to attend. You can also review microgrant program materials on our webpage to learn more about requirements and eligibility.

Where is the funding from?

The Innovative Mobility Program is funded by a combination of federal and state sources, and the program has a total of $20 million for grants, contracts and program administration. The microgrant program is specifically supported by state funding.

Will there be other funding opportunities through the Innovative Mobility Program?

We will be announcing additional funding opportunities, including a competitive grant program, very soon!

Thank you for your interest in the Innovative Mobility Program, and we look forward to working with you! Questions? Contact us at innovativemobility@odot.oregon.gov.
