Interstate 84 is open between Troutdale and Hood River

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024

Interstate 84 is now open between Troutdale at milepost 17 and Hood River at milepost 64 following an ice storm that closed the interstate for nearly 31 hours.

Chains are required from milepost 37 to 63 for all vehicles over 10,000 gross vehicle weight or vehicles towing. For more chain information go to Tripcheck.com.

Conditions in the Gorge may continue to change quickly. Crews have worked through the storm laying down sand, salt and deicer and will continue to do so. This helps to break up the packed ice and snow, but some areas remain slick.

A team of plows are leading the line of traffic from the closure points on both ends and will set a slow and steady pace. They will plow as they go and continue to work through the night treating the road.
