Transportation projects in Oregon that reduce greenhouse gas emissions have another opportunity in 2024 to get a funding boost from the federal Carbon Reduction Program.

About $12 million is available in 2024 for eligible projects in “small urban and rural” areas of Oregon with populations fewer than 200,000. The application window runs March 1 - May 31, 2024.

Eligible applicants are counties, cities, tribal governments, and local and state transportation agencies.

Visit our Carbon Reduction Program webpage to learn more about the program and how to apply for funding.

The webpage also lists example eligible projects, or you can view an online PDF list of awarded projects from the 2023 round.

Tell us about your experience with the 2023 funding round

We’d like to hear about your experience with the 2023 funding round for the Carbon Reduction Program. Join our program lead, Rye Baerg, at a virtual listening session later this month.

If your project received funding, you applied and were denied, or thought about applying but never completed it, this session is for you. Registration is required.

We’ll use the gathered feedback to improve the program process heading into the 2024 funding round.

The Carbon Reduction Program is one of the ways Oregon is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation over the next several decades. By 2050, emissions from transportation will be 60% lower than they were in 1990, according to data on our new transportation emissions website.
