ODOT NEWS RELEASE:

U.S. 101 project begins this week at East Bay Road

January 3, 2024

NORTH BEND – Construction will begin this week on a project to improve safety and the flow of traffic at the intersection of U.S. 101 and East Bay Road north of McCullough Bridge.

The highway in this area is limited to a single lane in each direction, and southbound traffic often backs up when vehicles stop to turn left onto East Bay Road. Some southbound drivers use the right shoulder to pass, creating a safety risk for pedestrians, bicyclists and other motorists.

This project will construct a dedicated left-turn lane for southbound U.S. 101 onto East Bay Road. A smaller right-turn lane will be constructed for northbound traffic, and pedestrian improvements will connect the bridge to the intersection. The traffic signal system will be upgraded and replaced.

Most work will take place at night. Motorists can expect lane closures 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night to Friday morning. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.

The first weeks of construction will involve setting up the work zone, installing signs and cutting asphalt and concrete. Nearby residents can expect noise consistent with road construction.

HP Civil, Inc. of Salem is the prime contractor for the $1.96 million project. All work is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
