Construction Update
Traffic is now using the temporary detour bridge
We've shifted traffic onto the temporary detour bridge!
You may have seen our crews working to finish the detour bridge in Corvallis. Over the past few weeks we've worked on the driving, walking and biking surface and connected it to the road on both sides of the river.
Exciting news – The temporary detour bridge doesn't have a weight restriction so regular traffic, buses and trucks can all use the detour bridge starting today.
How you access and use NW Van Buren Avenue and NW 1st Street changes now that we've moved eastbound traffic onto the detour bridge.
Now that traffic is on the temporary detour bridge, you can expect:
A temporary traffic signal at NW Van Buren Avenue/NW 1st Street to help direct people whether they drive, walk or roll.
NW 1st Street restricted to one way vehicle traffic from NW Van Buren Avenue, for one block in each direction.
Restricted driving access to NW Van Buren Avenue from NW 1st Street.
No weight restrictions. The temporary detour bridge is open to regular traffic, including trucks, buses and emergency response vehicles.
Bikes and Pedestrians
The bike and pedestrian path under the bridge on both the east and west sides are now closed. These paths will remain closed for the duration of the project.
The new temporary detour bridge includes a separated path shared by pedestrian and bicyclists. This path is now open and is the new alternate path to get across the river.
For people biking, walking or rolling from south Corvallis, follow the signed detour to get onto the new path. This detour includes crossing NW Van Buren Avenue at the temporary traffic signal.
River Access
You can continue to use the river during construction. The river channel is marked with buoy lines and signs directing river users where to go.
Please stay in the marked areas!
You can learn more about construction of the new bridge and the potential impacts by visiting our project webpage.
Downtown businesses are open during construction.

Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
