Reminder: Southbound I-205 Lane Reductions and Ramp Closures Starting Saturday, November 11

I-205 Abernethy Bridge Project: SB I-205 Lane and Freeway Ramp Closures_November 2023 Detour Map

What: Southbound I-205 will be reduced to one lane between OR 99E and OR 43, and the southbound OR 99E loop on-ramp and southbound I-205 off-ramp to OR 43 (Exit 8) will close for approximately 15 hours.  

When: Starting 9 p.m., Saturday, November 11, through 12 p.m., Sunday, November 12. 

Why: This work allows crews to pour concrete for the new bridge supports.

Work Zone Safety

During these closures, there will be signed detours. In order to protect the safety of workers and the nearby residential areas, we ask that drivers slow down and follow the signed detours.

Traffic Impacts

  • OR 43 northbound single lane closure with trucks leaving and entering the highway.

  • Clackamette Drive single lane closure with temporary signal and flagger.

  • Local roads will experience lane closures and traffic restrictions during construction. 

  • Coming Soon: Main Street lane reduction under I-205 with flaggers starting Monday, November 6, through November 2023.

River Impacts

  • The Willamette River remains accessible during Abernethy Bridge construction; the Sportcraft Boat Ramp is open.

  • 'No wake' zones are in place until 2024 through the bridge construction area on the Willamette River. 

  • River users will notice several large barges anchored in the river and are required to stay 200 feet away from them. River users are urged to use extreme caution, and all boats must travel between the green and red buoys. 

Bike and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Bike and pedestrian routes through construction zones are in place. People walking and riding a bike need to use caution when traveling through the project area. Follow signs and stay alert.

  • OR 43 and OR 99E bike and pedestrian access restrictions.

Construction has started on the project’s first phase and will last through 2025. You can visit Tripcheck.com for real-time traffic impacts. Stay safe out there. Pay attention to signs and travel safely through the construction zone.
