Travel lanes shifting on U.S. 97

Lane configuration for northbound and southbound U.S. 97 traffic

Beginning Monday, November 13, a temporary traffic realignment will be in place on U.S. 97 between Grandview Drive and Empire Avenue for approximately the next eight months.

The temporary traffic realignment includes the travel lanes on U.S. 97 shifting towards west, the center median barrier being removed, and travel lane widths reduced from 12 feet down to 11 feet.

Detours for Grandview Drive and Clausen Road

Detour routes for Clausen Road and Grandview Drive closures.

Beginning Monday, November 13, the following closures and detours will be in place:

  • The left turn onto Grandview Drive from northbound U.S. 97 will be permanently closed to traffic.
    • Northbound travelers can access Grandview Drive by turning left onto Cooley Road, right onto Hunnell Road, right onto Loco Road, left onto Clausen Road and right onto Grandview Drive.
  • The right turn onto Clausen Road from southbound U.S. 97 will be closed for approximately the next eight months.
    • Southbound travelers can access Clausen Road by turning right onto Grandview Drive and left onto Clausen Road.

Use Caution in the Work Zone

Work Zone

Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.

Don't Stress About Using Roundabouts

Aerial view of the roundabout on U.S. 20 and Cooley Road.

We recently opened four new dual-lane roundabouts between Tumalo and Bend as part of the U.S. 20: Tumalo-Cooley Road and Bend North Corridor projects. It's National Stress Awareness Week, and we understand that using new infrastructure the first few times can take some getting used to.

For a less stressful trip through these dual-lane roundabouts, here's what you need to know:

  1. Use the correct lane when approaching by following signs and pavement markings.
  2. Yield both lanes to traffic already in the intersection and enter when there is an appropriate gap.
  3. Don't pass large vehicles or change lanes in the roundabout.
  4. Use your turn signal when exiting.

Remember these tips the next time you're 'round Central Oregon for stress-free travel!
