Construction Update
Here's what you can expect in the coming weeks:
We're almost done with the temporary detour bridge and expect traffic to start using it mid-November.
Crews are finishing the detour bridge, working on the driving surface and connecting it to the road on both sides of the river.
Moving eastbound traffic onto the detour bridge will change how NW Van Buren Avenue and NW 1st Street will be accessed and used.
River Access
People can continue to use the river during construction. The river channel is marked with buoy lines and signs directing river users where to go.
Please stay in the marked areas!
The changes include:
Turning on a temporary signal at NW Van Buren Avenue/NW 1st Street to help direct car and pedestrian traffic.
Restricting NW 1st Street to one way traffic from NW Van Buren Avenue, for one block in each direction.
Restricting access to NW Van Buren Avenue from NW 1st Street.
No weight restriction, detour bridge is open to regular traffic, including trucks, buses and emergency response vehicles.
Bikes & Pedestrians
The bike and pedestrian path under the bridge on both the east and west sides are now closed. These paths will be closed for the duration of the project.
The new temporary detour bridge includes a separated pedestrian and bike path. This new path will open mid-November and will become the new alternate path to get across the river.
You can learn more about construction of the new bridge and the potential impacts by visiting our online open house.
Downtown businesses are open during construction.
