Oregon 42 chip seal project begins Monday

August 17, 2023

WINSTON – Motorists should expect daytime lane closures and delays along Oregon 42 between Tenmile and Winston next week due to a chip seal project.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 21, and continue for about two days. Flaggers and pilot cars will provide traffic control through the work zone, which starts at Benedict Road (milepost 63.8) ends near Brockway Road (milepost 71.7).

Chip seal projects can result in loose rock in the roadway. Motorists are advised to slow down, drive with caution and allow additional space between vehicles.

While lane closures are in effect, we ask local residents to wait at the end of their driveways for a pilot car before turning onto the highway. ODOT will post signs at each driveway, and flaggers will provide traffic control at local intersections.

Through the end of August, motorists should watch for intermittent daytime lane closures for striping and sign installation.

The chip seal on Oregon 42 is part of a larger $8.5 million project that resurfaces U.S. 199 (Redwood Highway) between Cave Junction and the California border.
