It’s been two months since the launch of the first round of funding for ODOT’s Community Charging Rebates program and interest has been strong.

As of Aug. 15, we’ve allocated more than $1.2 million for 58 EV charging projects in 20 Oregon counties. That’s about 70% of the $1.75 million available in the first funding round.

Of that $1.2 million:

  • We’ve allocated $708,000 for projects in “priority” disadvantaged and rural communities, which is over half of the dedicated funding for projects in those communities.
  • We’ve allocated $525,000 for projects in “non-priority” communities, which is all of the dedicated funding for projects in those communities.

Just under $550,000 remains for projects in disadvantaged and rural communities as of Aug. 15. We encourage folks with projects in these areas to apply soon; the funding round will close if that money runs out before the October application deadline.

The program website has a map tool to help you determine if your project is in either area, and a detailed list of project eligibility requirements

The Community Charging Rebates Program offers rebates for “Level 2” EV charging projects at multifamily homes and publicly accessible parking areas throughout Oregon. The rebates range from $4,250 - $5,500 per charging port or up to 75% of eligible project costs, whichever is less.

Improvements moving forward

We’re improving the process and lowering barriers for applicants in a few ways:

  • We made a new guide to help people get project quotes from vendors. Read the guide PDF online.
  • We tweaked the application to allow a third party (like an EV service provider or nonprofit) to apply for the rebate on behalf of their customers.
  • Our nonprofit contractor, Forth, is contacting people with unfinished applications to see if they can help them complete their application.

Upcoming help opportunities

  • Forth is hosting informational "office hours" for prospective applicants in the next week:
  • Forth also scheduled a webinar Aug. 16 about the project quote process. Sign up to attend.

Visit the rebate program webpage for the latest on remaining funding, and several resources to help people understand the program and complete the application process.
