Starting tonight: expect major summer construction impacts on OR 217 and I-205
ODOT urges travelers in Portland metro area to plan ahead for delays and use caution in construction zones

PORTLAND — Two closures begin Friday night in the Portland metro region with OR 217 restricted to one lane for 11 days, and an Interstate 205 on-ramp closure and detour in West Linn before additional closures on Aug. 4.
ODOT crews are working hard to stay on schedule so we can reduce impacts on traffic for the Labor Day holiday weekend and the start of school. Both projects are aimed at improving safety and reducing traffic congestion in the area.
We urge the public to slow down in construction zones to keep workers safe and appreciate your patience as we make significant progress on two major projects in our region. All travelers should plan ahead during these closures and allow additional travel time to reach your destination safely. OR 217: 11-day lane closure between I-5 and OR 99W
Travelers should expect severe congestion along the southern end of 217 and Interstate 5 leading up to OR 217 in both directions starting Friday, July 21 when an 11-day lane closure starts between I-5 and OR 99W.
- The closures mark a major step in the OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project, which will improve safety and reduce bottlenecks by adding auxiliary lanes – ramp-to-ramp connections – between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W.
- The closures won’t extend onto I-5 but we expect extensive delays in both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-5 leading to OR 217.
- Starting about 9 p.m. Friday, July 21, ODOT crews will restrict a three-quarter-mile section of northbound OR 217 to one lane, beginning at the I-5 interchange and ending near the OR 99W interchange. The closure will allow crews to build a stronger foundation for future auxiliary lanes in this area.

I-205: Detours and closures in West Linn to make way for new roundabout
The West Linn I-205 northbound ramp detour from OR 43 begins at 10 p.m., Friday, July 21 and runs through Friday, Aug. 4. This detour route has been used multiple times in the past and we encourage drivers to use caution in the area, slow down, and follow the detour signs.
- The I-205 northbound on-ramp detour is necessary for ODOT crews to finish construction on the new roundabout that will connect OR 43 with I-205 northbound.
- This project is one of the critical safety-related improvements to the area, and it will also help reduce congestion and improve the flow of traffic.
