Lower deck of the Marquam Bridge will close Friday and Saturday nights for inspection

The bridge undergoes inspection every two years; southbound I-5 traffic can use I-405 over the Fremont Bridge as a detour

The lower deck of the Marquam Bridge, southbound Interstate 5, will be closed both Friday and Saturday nights, July 7 and 8, for its biennial bridge inspection.

On both nights, the closure will be in place from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.

Here are some closure details.

  • During the closure, all southbound I-5 traffic must exit at the ramp to eastbound Interstate 84.
  • As a detour, southbound I-5 traffic may take Interstate 405 over the Fremont Bridge and rejoin I-5 at the south end of the Marquam Bridge.
  • The westbound I-84 ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed although the ramp to northbound I-5 will remain open.

During the closure, inspectors will use lifts and snooper cameras to carry out a thorough safety inspection of the bridge.

The Marquam Bridge opened in 1966.
