ASHLAND - The East Main Street Bridge over Interstate 5 reopens Friday, June 9 —  the first of two south Ashland bridges to get a deck facelift.

Starting Monday, June 12, lane restrictions begin for the rehabilitating of the OR-66 Ashland Street bridge deck over the CORP railroad overpass. This work will take about ten weeks. Drivers should expect a single lane in each direction over the bridge through early August.

The timing of both projects allows the East Main Street Bridge over Interstate 5 to reopen before the height of southern Oregon’s fire season.

Interstate 5 Exit 6 closures for bridge deck seal corrections

Starting Thursday, June 15 thru July 5, bridge deck corrective work closes the southbound Exit 6 (Mt. Ashland/Callahan’s Lodge) on-ramp. Through traffic southbound on Interstate 5 will narrow to a single lane while the old deck seal is replaced. Due to the on-ramp closure, local traffic wishing to travel south from Exit 6 will detour on Old Siskiyou Highway to the I-5 Exit 1 on-ramp just north of the state border.

Once the southbound bridge deck is resealed, the contractor will perform the same corrective work on the northbound side, anticipated from June 29 through July 19. That work will mean a short closure of the northbound Exit 6 off-ramp. Northbound traffic bound for Exit 6 (Mt. Ashland/Callahan’s Lodge) will be directed to use the Exit 1 off-ramp and follow Old Siskiyou Highway north.

Interstate 5 Paving

Interstate 5 between Exits 11 and 19 near Ashland will also see improvement this summer. Beginning Sunday, June 18, drivers can expect single lane traffic during the nighttime work zone with a 50-mph speed limit when work is active.

ODOT contractor Rocky Mountain Construction of Klamath Falls will begin working nights (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) to remove rumble strips in preparation of the asphalt paving.  Work includes new pavement, new permanent striping and safety rumble strips off the shoulder.

The $9-million project includes night-time on and off-ramp closures at night at Exits 11, 14 and 19 and roadway improvements at the Ashland Port of Entry. Drivers will be notified of ramp closures using electronic message signs.
