Innovative Mobility Program Updates

May 17, 2023

To all who value active and public transportation,

We want to share the latest with you on our new Innovative Mobility Program, or IMP. We’ve continued to award microgrants and are working hard to stand up the remainder of the program, which will include competitive grants and contracted services.

What we’ve been up to

We are working with Ontiveros & Associates to coordinate the development, planning, and implementation of the IMP competitive grants. They have extensive experience with building more equitable, accessible, and inclusive systems. Together, we will continue to conduct equitable and targeted community engagement to inform program design and implementation.

We recently stood up the IMP Technical Advisory Committee, or IMP TAC. This committee is a pilot that will meet for up to 6 times this year. The group features individuals from across Oregon who are heavily interested in work at the intersections of equity, transportation, and access. We held our first meeting on April 18, 2023. The IMP Technical Advisory Committee will be providing feedback and recommendations to us to ensure that equity is centered in grant design and implementation. We’ll be posting meeting notes to the IMP webpage soon.

The large competitive grants are set to open later this year. Stay tuned for more updates on what the grants might look like.

It’s nice to meet you!

Bridgette Bottinelli is our new Innovative Mobility Program Coordinator. Bridgette is currently coordinating the micro-grants, providing technical assistance, and conducting outreach and engagement. Bridgette has a Master's in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon and has experience in transportation, urban design, and community engagement.

Reminder: Apply for a microgrant!

IMP microgrants are awarded on a rolling basis with no application for deadline. IMP microgrants are intended to be flexible sources of funding that can support a wide range of new and existing projects. A wide array of organizations are eligible to apply, including local and regional governments, Tribes, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, businesses providing community services, and public schools and universities. To date, we’ve awarded over 50 microgrants totaling over $260,000. Application materials and program guidance are available here.

Need help thinking through a potential project, preparing an application, connecting with another organization, or delivering your approved project? Contact our IMP Coordinator, Bridgette Bottinelli, at Bridgette.Bottinelli@odot.oregon.gov.

About the Innovative Mobility Program

The Innovative Mobility Program is a new initiative from the Oregon Department of Transportation that aims to increase historically underserved communities’ access to public and active transportation. The program has an emphasis on social equity, reducing the number of trips Oregonians make by car, improving access to transportation, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The IMP is funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed by Congress in November 2021, as well as State of Oregon funding. The program has a total of $20 million for grants, contracts, and program administration from 2022-2027.

If you need more information or have any questions, please contact the Innovative Mobility Program Manager, Dorian Pacheco, at Dorian.Pacheco@odot.oregon.gov or 971-428-7564. Thank you!
